*What is Agroecology?

People tending a colorful garden on a sunny day with a blue sky.

Agroecology integrates social and ecological concepts in order to determine the best ways to manage land and resources. Agroecological approaches to land management emerge from the ground up and are context specific, considering what is best practice for the specific land and peoples to which the management applies. Agroecology seeks to enhance the relationships between humans, plants, animals and the environment prioritising reciprocity and avoiding exploitative relationships. An agroecological approach to land management acknowledges that everything is connected and that we cannot look at the management of land as an isolated thing, but rather something which affects and is affected by the global system.

"It is no longer possible to look at food, livelihoods, health and the management of natural resources separately. Embracing systems–thinking through holistic approaches is needed to address these complex and interdependent challenges."
